After lunch we went into the Samuel French bookstore where David pointed out a picture of himself in a book on digital filmmaking. In taking this picture I am violating the bookstore's firm rule of NO COPYING (including handwritten notes). 

With my high school friends Amy Aquino and David Garfield. You have probably seen Amy on television; David is about to get his play Uncivil Unions produced in LA. He also has a video production company so please hire him to shoot your wedding or corporate function. 

One of the greatest things about Sunset Boulevard in LA is the billboards. Here is an enormous ad for Studio 60 on the side of a building.

At the memorial, I got to meet and talk to some relatives I'd never met before, like Nora, Ernie's niece. She and her husband run a summer theatre camp that her parents founded. Some other people at the memorial attended or were even counselors at the camp years ago. 

Faye's (Jennifer's mom) house is full of wonderful mementos. Here is a picture of Jennifer (right) and her three siblings. 

Jennifer arranged the car rental with Hertz. When I got there, the woman at the counter mentioned that I could upgrade to a Prius for $10 a day and I said sure! It's an amazing car. 

I'm in Los Angeles for the memorial of Jennifer's stepfather Ernie. Driving to Silver Lake, I passed this piece of street art made from old televisions. 

I played a casual with Doug Pauly at a new Del Webb development. He has several huge developments in the Sacramento area; I think all of them are aimed a seniors and include golf courses. This is a wonderful model of the development in the main office.

They are doing Urinetown at CRC in the spring and I told Steve, the musical director, that I would be available for subbing. He was happy to hear that. I hope I get to play!

I volunteered to be on the board of the Sacramento Valley Returned Peace Corps Volunteer group, and do their newsletter and web site. I haven't done a newsletter in about ten years, so I'm ready to enjoy it again. And maintaining a web site is very little work as long as I don't actually have to write anything.

We had a neighborhood watch meeting at our house tonight. We were expecting maybe ten people, but then about twenty-five came. We used absolutely every chair in the house. One of the neighbors we met was Ginger Fierstein, who is the assistant to my contact for the Foodstuffs illustrations at News & Review! Actually, they just hired her full-time, so I'll be sending my illustrations to her from now on.
She says they love me over there because I'm so fast.
This is my last Foodstuffs illustration (seeing a Mexican seafood place from the highway).

I got an email about playing keyboards for Sweet Charity and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Molly Ringwald is of course from Sacramento originally and even performed in Best of Broadway. Another connection: when I was a sophomore, my high school did Sweet Charity and the star was Lisa Scottoline, now a famous mystery writer.

My mask of Dan Pool. He asked me to do it and pointed out that it would be easy because we have the same shape head (my mask of myself already looks a little like him). Indeed, I used my Mark mask as a starting point for this one.
