You said to look it up, so I did. I googled "unexplained hair loss" and this is the first thing that came up:
Q. I have a 3-year-old neutered cat that has a hair loss over his flank and abdominal areas. He seems to want to lick these areas, which seems to make it worse. I took him to my veterinarian, who examined him, scraped his skin and could not find anything that could cause this odd behavior.
His licking is driving him and me crazy.
