I met a really interesting new guy (salesman) at the piano store yesterday... Brad. He just graduated from college where he was on a soccer scholarship, but majored in philosophy. How often does that happen? He also plays piano and guitar, and met his girlfriend when she came to see his band (thus fulfilling the #1 function of music). She is now getting her masters in museum studies at U of Washington (always pronounced "you dub"). So while I was tuning pianos today, I had a great time talking to him about philosophy, art history, music, law (he had been planning to go to law school, but is now having second thoughts), pianos, and other stuff. I told the manager, "You need to hire more philosophy majors."
